Is Your Open House Sign Placement Legal?

Did you know that City of Saskatoon Bylaw 7491 addresses where you can and can not place your Open House Signs? There are design restrictions and a number of locations where Open House signs are not permitted AT ALL!


Must have no more than 2 sign faces;
The top of the sign must be no higher than 1 metre above grade;
The total sign face area must be no larger than 0.6 square metres and must be self-supporting;
Must not be animates, illuminated, rotating, flashing or have moving lights or other electrical features;
Must not have attachments such as balloons, kites, an electronic message centre or inflatable devices;
Must not resemble traffic control devices;
Must not be placed in such a way as to create a potential hazard to vehicular or pedestrian traffic and must not obstruct the view of any portion of a traffic control device or signal.
Placement of Signs
Open House signs are permitted on certain city boulevards (make sure you see the list of prohibited roadways in the link below) subject to the following restrictions:
Signs are NOT PERMITTED on centre medians or traffic islands
Signs must be located as follows:
At least 2.0 metres from the curb (6.0 metres from nearest driving lane if no curb)
At least 5 metres from any private driveway
At least 2 metres from any fire hydrant
Signs must be removed immediately following your open house.
